Renaissance: (lit) renew, reborn

OUR HISTORY

The Renaissance Baptist Church of Brooklin opened for public services on Sunday, January 5th, 2003. For many months before that first Sunday, both prayers and plans were made by a number of Churches in the Durham region, and Feb Central Church Planting, regarding a new start at the former home of Meadowcrest Baptist Church.

Years have passed since those Church Plant days, and while we are now an established congregation within the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches we still feel close to our new Church Plant identity!

We believe we are here on purpose. We feel specifically called to bring the Good News of Jesus to the village of Brooklin. We have room for you to come and hear what that is about. If you are already a Christ Follower new to the area, we would love to have you join with us as we seek to be faithful witnesses right here where you live!

WHAT WE BELIEVE

If I was asked to summarize it really briefly here I would say that our Church believes that it ( reality ) is all about the gospel message of the life death and ressurection of Christ, and what that life giving message means for all people everywhere as revealed in the Bible. Biblical authority is big for us, but we don't worship the Bible we worship the Christ as revealed in the scriptures. If you have ever wondered what the often used but seldom understood term " Evangelical" means we reccomend you read a highly regarded definition written a few years ago by a great Canadian Theologian.

OUR MISSION

We understand our mission as "Joining God in what he is doing in our world, reconciling a people for his own glory, through the life changing message of salvation in Jesus Christ our Lord.

It is intentionally unoriginal, in fact we hope it is just our way of saying the same thing Jesus said in what is commonly called " The Great Commission" Matthew 28: 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
As a community of faith identifying itself as a Christian Church, we believe that what we are to be "about" has been determined long ago by our founder Jesus Christ . If you would like to read a longer description of what we believe our mission is please click this link HERE.

WHAT WE STRIVE TO BE

Our Vision

"We will strive to display Jesus as the centre of all life, by tangible acts of Christian service to our neighbours and thriving relationships with God and one another."

This simple statement describes our vision of what we believe it will look like when we are living faithful to our mission.

OUR staff

  • JOHN BLACKMAN

John has been our lead pastor at Renaissance Church July 1st 2002! He's married to Janine and they have three daughters and many grandkids. When it comes to preaching, John likes to think that beyond answering the hard questions of life, the Bible actually provides the right questions to have answered! He is fond of both reading and road cycling. He is also a vintage audio fan and is probably too fond of his dog Bernice. He's available almost anytime for a coffee and is always glad to talk.

  • matt murray

Matthew joined our team as Child and Youth Director in the spring of 2022.  He has a passion for ministry and mentoring, and is excited to pour into the lives of our children and teens.  He also takes turns leading our worship and enjoys sports and camping.  You can contact him by email for more info on our regular and special events.
